John Lake is a guitar teacher in Iowa City, Iowa with over 40 years of experience. He began teaching while in high school in Mason City, Iowa and has experience teaching almost every style of music including folk, rock, blues, country, R&B, and jazz. He teaches all levels, acoustic and electric.

John uses a hands-on, student-centered approach to teaching. He likes to play music with his students from the first lesson in order to develop their rhythm skills and confidence. He starts beginners with a method book and simple chords, then quickly moves to songs the students want to learn. He focuses on helping each student learn the music they are most excited about.

Whether a guitarist is a beginner, intermediate, or advanced player, John tailors lessons to their specific needs and purpose. For students who want to sing and play, John can provide guidance and encouragement based on his vocal training. He also teaches music theory. He teaches electric, acoustic, and bass guitar, as well as ukulele and offers vocal coaching.

John organizes student recitals, where each student has an opportunity to perform on-stage accompanied by a full band. He teaches Monday through Saturday, with morning, afternoon, and evening times available.
