About

Sound Space Studio was founded by Julia Purcell in 2023. She is originally from Traverse City, Michigan, but has lived in Louisville, Kentucky, for close to 20 years. Julia began playing piano at age seven, then guitar at sixteen. Since moving to Kentucky in 2004, she has also picked up banjo and ukulele. She graduated from Michigan State University with a focus on music therapy, psychology, and voice.

Julia is a board-certified music therapist, music educator, performer, and community music organizer in the Louisville area. She taught an improvisation course for music therapy at UofL for 12 years. She also co-founded and operated Louisville Expressive Therapies, where she practiced music therapy with both children and adults. She also led intern and practicum student training there.

She specializes in teaching voice, piano, ukulele, guitar and banjo. Julia works with neuro-typical and neuro-diverse kids and adults. In addition to teaching, she performs original and traditional music. She has toured regionally and internationally with Maiden Radio, Possom Queens, and G
