Located in Overland Park, Kansas, James Stephens has been teaching guitar for close to 30 years. He started playing electric guitar at 13, learning blues and rock in Houston, Texas. He then studied classical guitar, earning a Bachelors of Arts degree in music from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, and a Master of Music degree in guitar performance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
James aims to help students meet their goals, whether they are beginners, advanced players, or students wanting to major in music. He believes learning an instrument is best done with a teacher, providing feedback that video tutorials can’t. He doesn’t want students to feel rushed, so he schedules free time between lessons.
James teaches basics like chord strumming and note reading, as well as theory, songwriting, improvisation, composition, interpretation, and arranging. He teaches beginners to advanced students of all ages. He offers guitar lessons in Overland Park, Kansas, and online via Zoom.
