I’m Lawrie, a professional upright bassist specialising in bluegrass, folk, and acoustic music. I’m currently the bass player with Old Baby Mackerel, and I also perform regularly with blues, jazz, folk, and function bands across the UK and Europe. I regularly play between 70\u2013100 gigs a year.<\/p>\n

I’ve been playing professionally for over 20 years. Earlier in my career, I played with the rock band Jebo, recording albums with producer John Burns and touring extensively across Europe, including performances at the Royal Albert Hall. We supported some incredible bands, including Yes, ASIA, the Australian Pink Floyd, The Musical Box, Budgie and Arthur Brown.<\/p>\n
I previously taught bass at Access to Music, leading GNVQ-level bass courses and helping develop the next generation of musicians.<\/p>\n
While I love the theory, my focus is always on solid groove, musicality, and helping players build confidence and enjoyment in their playing.<\/p>\n
I continue to get lessons myself, and am developing my bow skills and learning the classical double bass repertoire.<\/p>\n
